BDC Mourns the Loss of Board Member Fran Packard

Dear BDC members and supporters,

Long-time Board member Fran Packard passed away in the early morning of Dec 21st, 2012. Fran passed away after a two-year struggle with cancer during which she continued her various activities, including editing the Berkeley, Albany, and Emeryville Chapter of League of Women Voters newsletter, serving as a member of the U.C. Police Review Commission, and serving on the BDC Board of Directors.

Fran was a past President of both the Bay Area and California League of Women Voters. She also served on the Berkeley’s Energy and Landmarks Preservation Commissions and as Director of the Berkeley Community Fund.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 26 at 2:00 pm in Haver Hall at Northbrae Church, 941 The Alameda, in Berkeley. The family has asked that people wishing to honor Fran send donations in her name to the League of Women Voters of California (www.ca.lwv.org); League of Women Voters of the Bay Area (www.lwvbayarea.org); or to our League (www.lwvbae.org — our new Web site is almost complete; in the interim donations may be sent to 2530 San Pablo Ave., Suite F, Berkeley 94702).
